Attention Manitoban Airsofters!
If CQB is your game, then here’s the event for you. The ‘08-’09 CQB League is now open for preliminary sign-ups.
No registration fees will be taken at the moment, this is a preliminary sign-up to get your name down and team registered. Get 4-6 people together and sign-up today! Don’t have that many people? Don’t worry! Lone wolfs are welcome! League Administration will hold a draft for other teams that may be a person or two short, so it’s a great way to get to play with more experienced airsofters and learn a few things.
This year there are a dozen different game scenarios, including the classics: Bomb Defusal, Hostage Rescue, Capture the Flag, Flag Hunt, and many new ones. Team Captains will meet with League officials to determine which scenarios will make it into this year’s game rotation.
Individual and Team stats will be counted again this year, with prizes going to the League Champions as well as individual prizes based on performance.
If there are any questions, email john.doe (at) airsoftmanitoba (dot) com.
To sign-up, visit the Airsoft Manitoba sign-up page, here [http://airsoftmanitoba.com/08-09-cqb-league-preliminary-sign-up-form/].
Sign-up closes Oct 31, 2008.

First off, let me apologize. While I’ve been striving to bring as much timely news and information as possible, this is apparently a one-man show for the time being. I’ve had some great contributions from people so far, however everything falls on one person’s shoulders at the end of the day. Mine.
So with that in mind, here’s why things have been so slow here lately.
I am in the process of re-opening the CQB League for local airsofters in the Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada) area. This is great news for many of our readers, as a lot of you participated in the first year of the league back in 2006-2007.
Registration will be opening shortly, right after we get the site updated and ready to roll.
There will be a number of updates regarding the ‘08-’09 CQB League over the next few days on 6mm Magazine’s “sister” site, AirsoftManitoba.com.
The League Needs YOU, volunteer!
I’m putting the call out for volunteers now. This isn’t something one person can manage, and while the staff of Xtreme Tactics (www.Xtreme-Tactics.com) are ever so accommodating, there is much in the way of Administration work that gets done behind the scenes before the first game is ever played. Not to mention the ongoing commitment required on a game-day-basis to keep the League running.
Unfortunately, volunteering means you cannot participate. I know it’s a bummer. Although, with enough volunteers we will likely have an exhibition game at the end of the season to play (and of course, beat) the winning team.
There are lots of opportunities to be had, so if you are interested in volunteering for the 08-’09 CQB League, send me an email at john.doe (at) airsoftmanitoba (dot) com. Everyone is welcome to apply.
Sign me up!
Now, the big topic, is Team Registration. Registration is not yet open (as of Sept 30, 2008), but will be shortly. This initial wave of registration is purely to gauge interest and map out the exact days we will play.
As of right now, the league is set to run every Wednesday night and Sunday afternoons if necessary. If registration exceeds expectations, further dates may become available.
And before I get 100+ emails asking the same question… Yes - there will be a registration fee again this year. Think of Airsoft as any other organized sport (Hockey, Football, etc…). No - I don’t know how much it will be. Registration fee is based on participation - the more that play, the less you pay.
Interested in Sponsoring?
The League costs money to operate. My money (and I’d like to keep my money in my pocket for once). Some of you know how much of an investment airsoft is - especially if you’ve ever hosted a game/event. So - I’m looking for sponsors.
Sponsoring can mean many things. Something as small as a bag of BBs to supplement a quick giveaway, or a major donation for the grand prize. Volunteers are also needed, please see the section above for more information.
There are many arrangements we can make (aside from selling my body for sex - I’m not making that mistake again
), so send me an email at john.doe (at) airsoftmanitoba (dot) com to discuss our options and make an arrangement.
What the F*sharp is Airsoft Manitoba?
Airsoft Manitoba was the initial start-up of this news service. It was designed and dedicated to providing a “Manitoban” perspective to airsoft, and featured global news & reviews, and events hosted by Xtreme-Tactics - both indoor and outdoor. The initial 2006-2007 CQB League was also coordinated under the efforts of the founding members of Airsoft Manitoba, which at the time was a like-minded group of individuals looking to standardize rules for CQB and Outdoor airsoft game play.
Now, Airsoft Manitoba will be the parent not-for-profit organization (registration pending) to run the 2008-2009 CQB League.
For more information on the 2008-2009 CQB League feel free to email me directly at john.doe (at) airsoftmanitoba (dot) com.

A friend sent this my way today. After giving it a good read, there are a few issues I have with the article, but overall it definitely gives an unbiased and down-to-earth look at our sport from an outsider’s perspective.
I particularly thought the part about a 350fps projectile needing to be squeezed out of someone’s broken skin. Xtreme-Tactics has used 350fps as the maximum FPS for its patrons for nearly half a decade without the need to pry a BB out of some one’s skin. Although, I did have to pick a BB out of some one’s ear once with some tweezers. But that’s another story altogether.
Here is the link to the artcile. I have a hard copy saved as well in case it ever gets taken down.
The author is Amy Guthrie, and she works for the Broward-Palm Beach New Times. Photos are from the Broward-Palm Beach New Times article titled “Toy Soldiers”.

Oh, that’s right. We’re talking Airsoft.
As it would turn out, tighter is better in Airsoft too. RedWolf Airsoft did a comparative review on different inner-diameter inner-barrels. It’s actually quite a cool read.

The full article from RedWolf is here, or you can click the “More” link below to read it with us.

In some rather interesting news, Airsoft Xtreme magazine has reportedly been shut down by the UAA.
In short:
AX digitally altered posters to indicate they were a sponsor of the AFAD Defense and Gun Show. In fact, they are not - and organizers of the event, the UAA, did not appreciate it. Rightly so.
In long:
