Paint Projects: KJW M700 & WELL MB05D Sniper Rifle
Howdy all.
Few months back, I acquired a WELL “Mauser Tactical Sniper Rifle” (or MB05D Sniper Rifle) – but the paint job was less than stellar. Actually, it kinda reminded me of snake skin. Not to mention, many of the bolts that hold both halves o the stock together were either a) missing, or b) tightened too much & broke the stock.
So, being the anal-retentive guy I am – I set off to fix it.
I re-attached the broken parts of the stock with a shit-load of modeling glue & putty – and then decided to further reinforce them with plastic cement. Problem solved.
Now, on to the paint job. Everything was painted – even the optics (I hate it when people try to paint optics). I typically despise getting painted guns – and every inch of my being was telling me not to get this gun – but my curiosity got the better of me.
While I had the gun apart from fixing the stock, I gave it a coat of KRYLON Camo flat-black. Paint gone, but the metal adjustable stock also had some paint on it from the previous painter’s carelessness. So I used a dremel and removed as much as I could. The adjustable stock was also missing some securing bolts – so I found replacements and took care of that. I then proceeded to tape-off any parts of the stock I wanted to remain black (grip, cheek rest, other accent points).
Alternating between brown & olive drab, I sprayed a random pattern into the stock. The end result was a very attractive base for any foliage gun wrap I have, and can even be used without a wrap. There’s no pattern to the paint, no stencils were used, so it’s just a base. Further details could be added – but because I use hand-made wraps – it’s not necessary.
See below for the gallery of pics for the WELL and KJW rifles.
So, after the successful paint job of the WELL, I decided to take the same approach to a KJW M700 I’ve been toying with for a while now.
When I got the M700, it was used, with an upgraded Guarder steel bolt (which wasn’t installed correctly), and an OD paint job (stock only, thank God). After fixing the bolt, tuning it to ~470fps w/.2g BBs, and adjusting the trigger for near-zero friction – I decided to paint it tan. The KRYLON Camo tan looks terrible – almost like a beige/gray. Bah. Should’ve used the good stuff.
Needless to say, I was looking for something better, and after experimenting with the brown/OD scheme on the WELL, I decided to give it a go. Took the whole gun apart again, and taped-of the rubber stock pad.
In the end, the paint job looks great – and after adding as many upgrades for the M700 series I could find – I have gas-powered rifle capable of shooting 600+fps w/.2g BBs. I’ve been running MadBull .3s, and they are a great sniper round. So great – I’m going to start using them in my SR-25, and any other long-range guns I have.
To make a long story short, here it the end result…

Sorry for the crappy lighting – pics were taken in a bit of a rush.
