Custom Gun: Solid Snake’s Custom M4A1 from MGS4

Well, I have an abundance of time on my hands, and I am completely in love with MGS4.

So, I’ve decided to take on a new project to re-create an airsoft version of the M4 Custom from MGS4.  Parts are already on order, and should be here soon.  I have also alreay selected a “base” gun for the project – the Jing Gong M4 S-System.

I looked through dozens of websites, hundreds of products, and almost fifty different manufacturers before I came to my final parts list.

To save some of the surprise, I’m not going to post the full list – but rather take it as I assemble it.

So far – progress is slow – as all i have the base gun, the Jing Gong M4 S-System.  Parts are on order – so it’s a waiting game until they arrive.

Here is the base gun:

Which I will be turning into:

MGS4: M4 Custom

As you can see from the pistures, the front and rear flip-up sights are already a match, as are the Grip and Buttstock (save, the colour).  I’ve chosen not to paint the Grip and Buttstock, but rather order replacements that are injection-molded with the appropriate colour, to prevent paint-chipping should it get struck by a round.

It’s also difficult to tell the colour exactly in the CG render – but in-game screens and cutscenes show it to be pretty close to Tan, and sometimes Dark Earth.  I’ve chosen Tan due to the abundance & availability of aftermarket parts – but I may give it another go with a Dark Earth version too.

Original plans were to upgrade everything – including the stock Jing Gong internals – but because this is mostly just a show-piece, I really don’t care how reliably she fires.  Should it ever go up for sale, internals can be upgraded upon request (for a nominal fee, of course).

So – stay tuned to see how it comes together.  I’ll post my next update when I get more information and products start coming in.

Feel free to leave any feedback or comments on the project.
